With such crystal clear skies, last night's eclipse was an extraordinary sight. I watched it enter totality from the middle of the River Thames, where just about none of the evening's revellers seem to have any idea -- or perhaps interest -- in the event taking place up above. It was a little while yet before I was able to get home and capture the moon, by now already re-entering the Earth's penumbra.

Something as commonplace as the casting of a shadow really isn't quite so tawdry when that shadow is cast by a vibrant, living sphere of over twelve thousand kilometres in diameter. It's an incredibly humbling and moving sight, though one which is all too easily regarded as a trivial curiosity in our climate of widespread indifference. Cynical sentimentalist? Perhaps.

Absolutely beautiful. I tried a couple of snaps, but haven't even seen how they came out yet; nothing like this, for sure. A lot of people on the streets of Clerkenwell were captivated, especially in the early stages when it was most obvious.

WOW! Now that's impressive. Noticed the two stars on either side of the moon. A fabulous shot!

Yes, I was watching this in Karachi as well. I actually thought of you as I was looking into the sky, and wondered if you'd be photographing it. Guess I found out :-)

Amazing, must have been hard to keep that tripod perfectly still on ISO200
