Travelling alone is as exhilarating as it can be lonely, but it's easy to forget yourself when constantly dazzled by beautiful and intriguing things. Scrambling over rocks and mantelling up crumbling limestone boulders alone and without water in the blazing sun is a little bit reckless, if not stupid, but it's hardly pushing the limits.

Imagine, if you will, that after a few hours of that, you reach your goal. A lone, old man kindly offers you water before vacating his spot in the shade to wander down to who-knows-where. You're left alone with a killer view, ruined Saracen structures and cave dwellings to explore, and one of the most beautiful necropoli in the world, covered, as it was, in a carpet of spring flowers; this is what Puglia's Monte Saraceno has to offer.

That and wild orchids, but unlike with nearby localities, these beauties require a heady mix of effort and desperation to find.

I really like this shot, very nice. Looks like it could also make a striking pic in B&W. Where is this place?

Thanks, chaps. Puglia is one of the southernmost states of Italy, the heel of the boot, if you like. Famous for pastas, rice, seafood and beautiful, beautiful countryside and people.

Love the colours. It's so vivid and looks very peaceful.

Lovely place and great capture to show it off too. Know exactly what you mean about that walk, sometimes I set off for something short before realising I am a long way from water and its very hot with sunburn not far off either.

I never realised how much I want to go to Puglia before! And it must be the most peaceful resting place anyone could wish for :)
- If the people are as beautiful, well... I've already got a hubby, I'll have to send my kids down there to find theirs when they're a little older..

This makes even me, the hater of nature, a little misty. Lovely picture.
