Though less often tread than routes further north, the Kern River valley is one of the most beautiful and diverse of the gateways to California's Sequoia National Park; in the space of forty minutes, you can traverse desert scrub, steep-sided canyon replete with waterfalls, heavily wooded valleys and ridges drawn white by snow. The skies can be so crisp and blue that actually putting a polariser on your lens borders on the obscene.

There is colour everywhere.

What a stunning location. The sky does look deepest blue.

Beautiful depth and detail on the right, and the sky is so vacant and blue. Wonderfully done!
