During the predicted gap between my last entry and this, a great deal has changed. I've submitted my thesis, largely bringing to an end my time in Cambridge, I've had long-anticipated stabilising surgery on my right shoulder, from which I'm currently in the process of recuperating, and the season has turned, bringing with it the grey skies and ethereal fogs for which we're renowned. However, not all colour is yet lost, and in the shortening days of Autumn, many a plant will blaze with final shows of firey crimson reds, oranges and yellows, though few will do so quite so gloriously as Liquidambar styraciflua (Hamamelidaceae), whose intricate leaves glow radiantly in the light of the setting sun.

Hey, glad to see you back.

Lovely colors.

Likewise. This is, as if you need me to tell you, utterly gorgeous. Almost enough to make me appreciate the qualities of this difficult season...

good to see you back :) great autumnal post - the colours on the trees are so gorgeous at the moment!

Hey Alistair, great to see you back and that the thesis is out of the way (bar the viva!). Great photo with great colours. I'm no good on plant names, I don't have the book to help me, but I know for sure this is a great plant with colours like that! Great detail, and I love the shallow DoF effect. Our Acer outside is turning now too, might go get some photos of that, perhaps, but I doubt they'll be this good!

Fantastic detail and color in this photo. I love how the large veins of the leaf go right into the bottom edge of the image.

Congrats on both the thesis and the shoulder surgery. I've had many friends do both :) Gorgeous leaf details for the fine autumn season which is upon us!

*sigh* There are moments like this one, when I see your images, that I wish my hands didn't tremble so much, so that I could actually hold a camera steady.

amazing detail, best wishes with your recovery.

Oh... you had a surgery. Get well soon. :P

Don't worry, you still able to catch the colours of fall. This photo is a very nice example.

Great photos on your blog. I like your style with very saturated colours. This one is beautiful.
