While photographing the Ophrys, I stumbled across a patch of some kind of field dandelion. Except that these were made for Godzilla and larger even than my clenched fist; I'd love to know what they are as they're more beautiful to my eyes than the common variety. Who knew that the English countryside could be every bit as fascinating as the rainforests back home, if in a slightly different way?

EDIT I: A painstaking search for the British members of the family Asteraceae (ex. Compositae) reveals that it's a Goat's beard, Tragopogon pratensis!

EDIT II: Thanks to all those who voted this entry into the top spot for the Macroday 'Fluffy' challenge; I'm genuinely thrilled!

EDIT III: And a big thank you to voters for choosing this as a Photo Friday Noteworthy in their 'Silky' challenge - I'm glad you liked the image.

Wow! I have no idea what they are but they look like they've landed from another planet! Fantastic shot.

Excellent. Very well done, especially considering how difficult it would be to keep something like this still in the breeze.

Great perspective, everything is perfect.

I love the soft colors and tones in this image. I've never seen any as big as you've described. Great find.

Wow, it's so neat how most people consider these to be weeds, but look they're just as intricate as any other flower, and just as beautiful.

Great shot!!!!
